Recommendations
and Proposals
As
a result of the study, about one hundred of programmes
were listed for the improvement of earthquake disaster
management in Kathmandu Valley. The study team evaluated
the programmes from viewpoints of term, priority and
reality.
Fulfilment
of all the programmes seems to require tremendous
time and budget. The team consequently selected four
projects, which include several programmes, for urgent
implementation. The implementation of the projects
hopefully brings visible results to promote further
endeavours to get up to as much as possible the three
goals for earthquake disaster reduction.
The
four projects are;
-
Establishment of Early
Earthquake Information System,
-
Establishment of Municipality
Disaster Management Institution and Exercise,
-
Building Improvement,
and
-
Establishment of Comprehensive
Database for Earthquake Disaster Mitigation.
Besides the selected projects,
it should be noted that there are important and long-term
projects with high priority/reality, i.e., Sinduri
road projects aiming at improving access to the Valley,
road widening projects for smoother mobility in the
Valley, and Melamchi water supply projects.
